When coming to The Dance Store for a pointe shoe fitting, you will work with one of these three lovely experts! With over 20 years of fitting experience each, Jenny, Elza, Erika, and Jennifer will help provide you with the right shoe, accessories, and knowledge to make your dance training as comfortable as possible!
"Don't be afraid to listen to your feet, I see so many dancers that ignore their needs because they rely too much on their teachers or parents. You are the one dancing, listen to your feet!"
Jenny grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa and went to college in Cape Town. As a kid, she studied ballet and horseback riding, but when her mother had her decide between the two activities she picked horseback riding. She met her husband at a bar in Johannesburg and moved to the states with him in 96. The following year she decided to open the store in Santa Monica. She has a son and the most energetic labradoodle on the planet. Aside from being surrounded by all things dance, she loves to travel and scuba dive.
Erika grew up in a small town near D.C. and has worked professionally as an actress/singer/dancer. She moved to California in '99 to pursue her career in entertainment and started working part time at The Dance Store in 2000. She has worked in many different trades in the entertainment industry, most recently as a fashion stylist. Erika even fit the dancers in Taylor Swift's "Shake it Off" music video. Though she loves ballet and fitting pointe shoes with her 26 years of experience, her favorite styles of dance are Jazz and Latin Ballroom. In her free time she loves spending time with her husband and her daughter.
"Sometimes finding pointe shoes is like finding a boyfriend, sometimes good, sometimes bad, sometimes more or less"
Elza is not only a beloved pointe shoe fitter, but talented seamstress. She sews between 100 and 150 shoes per month by hand for our customers. Elza is from Sao Paolo, Brazil and has traveled the world for her dance training. She studied Flamanco in Spain, Jazz and Tap in New York, and ballet with the Royal Ballet in England. In the late 1990s she moved to Washington D.C so her daughters could study dance at the Kirov Academy of Ballet. While living in D.C. she taught Flamanco at the academy. Elza moved to LA in 2001 to teach Flamanco at Debbie Allen Dance Academy and has been living here ever since. Even though she is living in LA her legacy in Brazil remains strong due to her flourising dance school and her own dance store!
"It is such a rewarding job, to see a smile on a dancer's face when they find the right shoe."
Jennifer grew up in Philadelphia and has been in the dance world her whole life. She danced professionally with Pennsylvania Ballet, Waves Dance Troupe, and was a featured dancer on a weekly television show Evening Magazine. Jennifer's passion for fitting pointe began at an early age. In 1977, her parents opened The Rosin Box, a dance boutique in Philadelphia specializing in the proper fitting of pointe shoes. Recently moving to Los Angeles, she is so happy to be a part of The Dance Store family. "They have the same passion and it feels like home."
